Digital Learning Day

Happy National Principals Month to our wonderful principal, Kim Johnson! We appreciate all you do for our students, staff, and families!

Learning Measurement in REAL LIFE!
Our 5th graders got hands-on practice converting cups (fluid ounces) ➡️ pints ➡️ quarts ➡️ gallons! They also practiced converting quarts to gallons and pints to gallons.
The best part? Students connected math to real-life experiences by using familiar measurements they see and use every day!
Math is more meaningful when you can see it, touch it, and use it!

Happy National Custodian Day!

Thank you to our Gifted Students for taking charge and selling 4 or more boxes of candy to help with the cost of their Educational Disney Field Trip!

Mrs. Moreno’s first-grade class had a fun time learning about spiders! Students practiced informational writing by writing facts they learned about spiders. After completing their writing, they showed what they knew about spider body parts by creating their own edible spiders using cookies and pretzels. This hands-on activity was a fun and tasty way for students to connect science and writing while demonstrating what they learned!

💙 September is Suicide Prevention Month, and our students at Clay County Middle School recently participated in an important conversation about hope, resilience, and support.
Guest speaker Dr. Derrick Mike encouraged students to remember the importance of asking for help, supporting one another, and speaking up when life feels overwhelming. Through open and honest discussions, students were reminded that they are never alone and that there are people and resources ready to help.
Creating safe spaces for these conversations is essential in helping young people build connections, find hope, and know their voices matter.
Thank you to Dr. Derrick Mike and our Clay County Middle School students for engaging in meaningful conversations that can make a lasting difference. 💙

August Students of the Month

Last week in kindergarten, we learned all about PIGS! 🐷
We read three different versions of The Three Little Pigs and compared the characters, problems, and solutions. We loved discovering all the ways the stories were the same—and different!
Our piggy theme carried into every subject. We learned about living and nonliving things, talked about construction workers and how people earn money by working, and reviewed shapes and counting by making shape pigs.
To end the week, we became construction workers and built houses out of straw, sticks, and bricks. Then along came the Big Bad Wolf!
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in!”
“Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!”
“Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down!”
And he tried! Some houses blew down, while others were strong enough to withstand the Big Bad Wolf. What a fun week of reading, learning, building, and experimenting! 🐷🏠

Learning About Weather and Wind 🌤️🪁
Mrs. Moreno’s 1st grade class had so much fun learning about weather and wind! We learned that wind is moving air and explored how wind can make objects move. After learning about wind speed and direction, we took our learning outside for a hands-on experience. The students were excited to fly a kite and watch the wind in action! It was a fun way to bring our science learning to life! 🪁💨

Clay Co. 4th Grade Junior Meteorologists
Ms. Brown's 4th grade Science class ended their unit on clouds and weather as Junior Meteorologists. As Junior Meteorologist, the students were able to give the current weather forecast and predict future weather forecasts for the upcoming week. The clouds in a cup experiment, showed each scholar how the raindrops come through the clouds.

CCSD Celebrates First Registered Teaching Apprenticeship !
This exciting achievement marks an important milestone for both Mrs. T. Gilbert and the district as CCSD continues to invest in developing future educators from within its own school community.

Chair Design Challenge
As part of our study of common materials, kindergarten students explored the different materials used to make everyday objects. We examined chairs in our classroom and discussed what they were made from and why different materials might be used. We also read stories featuring chairs, including Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Students then became engineers and designers! They used what they had learned about materials to design and build their own chairs. Through this project, students practiced observing, comparing materials, solving problems, and using creativity to turn their ideas into something they could build.

🌧️🌱 Rain + Sand + Science = Learning in Action! 🔬
Our 5th graders investigated rain erosion by building sand hills and creating their own “rain cans.” 💧⛰️ They tested their hills with and without plants to see how vegetation affects erosion.
Hands-on science makes learning stick! 🌎🧪

Last week, Clay County Elementary kindergarteners learned all about the concepts of sink and float! They made predictions, conducted experiments, and even designed and built their own boats. They concluded the week with a fun boat art project, bringing together everything they learned about sinking and floating.
